Hardwick Hall, Derbyshire
When I read that this weeks Photo Challenge was captioned ANGULAR ( http://dailypost.wordpress.com/dp_photo_challenge/angular/ )
I first thought of lines, curves, twists and turns…..but then my thoughts went straight to this image of Hardwick Hall, Derbyshire. Solid, rectangular, with no nonsense straight lines and dominating stance over its surrounds. Built in the 1590’s by Bess of Hardwick (Countess of Shrewsbury) it became known as the house that was ‘more glass than wall’.
I know that photographic rule is to work on the principle of thirds and not to place your subject bang slap in the centre….but rules are meant to be broken and to my mind the centre was the best option to show the solidarity of this very grand old hall.
