Weekly Photo Challenge – Intricate

In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Intricate.”

INTRICATE….Craftsmanship

I am not religious but cannot help to be moved by the architecture and the drama that was created by Stonemasons centuries ago in creating places of worship.  But if I had to isolate one feature in all these buildings that I admire most it would be the Stained glass (or Painted) Windows.

An intricate blend of stone carving, glass cutting and colouring and lead work to contain and separate the features.  The fact that so many remain after all these centuries is a marvel in its own right.

  1. As a child, I was mesmerized by the stain glass windows of our church. Gave me something worthwhile to focus on if the sermon wasn’t relevant. It brought back some good memories to see your photo. I have a black lab (maybe mixed) assistant who travels with me on the trails of the Ozark Mountains. She joined me in January of 2014 at mile 138 of the Ozark Highlands Trail. Thank you for your photo of “intricate.”

    • Some of these ‘coloured’ windows can as you say be mesmerizing…..even modern windows (see my post 24/4/15 for two modern windows in an old chapel) can captivate the thoughts. Our Black Lab Carla is now Thirteen and half and that half is now showing. She no longer does the long walks but is content to potter along on shorter walkies….but at her pace!
