It is Not Stonehenge

They do say that imitation is the best form of flattery …….and I guess that there are several similarities between this Sculptural installation and the mighty Neolithic Stonehenge.  Both stone circles can be found in Wiltshire and the one above is not that many miles away from the original, but it is there that the  similarity ends.

Not to say that the above Circle is not either attractive or important.  This installation can be found at the appropriately named Heavens Gate overlooking Longleat House and Park with its expansive views over Wiltshire.  Over the generations the various Marquise of Bath, who’s home is Longleat, have aspired to add something of value to the estate… leave their own mark so to speak…… and this is one of the most recent additions.  It consists of a number of standing stone pillars guarding a centre piece of a Slate circle.

Much as I admire this sculpture in its unique and magnificent setting, I cannot see it standing for as many millennia as Stonehenge….in fact I suspect Stonehenge will still be standing proud when its modern equivalent is long gone.
