Daily Prompt: Hopeful

To Hope….please add the word Peace.

Then with luck we may in this uncertain world provide both Hope and Peace for all in the NEW year ahead.

Cee’s Black and White Photo Challenge….Open Topic

In the Slow Lane……

We have the ‘free choice’ of subject for this weeks Black and White Photo Challenge….so as the year is coming to a close and we slow down in readiness for the Hogmanay celebrations, I rather thought this would make an appropriate subject.

On a sunny winters day there can be nothing much more idyllic than a leisurely cruise in a traditional Narrowboat along one of England’s many canals…..and leisurely it has to be with a maximum speed allowed of 5mph.

You can see what others have suggested on this link:- https://ceenphotography.com/2016/12/29/cees-black-white-photo-challenge-open-topic-5/

It took its Time……But its here

Foggy December Dawn, Big Wood, Allestree

Another day of frost and fog…..strange that it is only the second consecutive day but it feels much longer. So the question remains has winter arrived now that we have reached the end of December and a year of very unpredictable and unseasonal weather.

Like yesterday the sun did try to break thru the fog, at times it did look as if it might just win, but not for long.  They are forecasting a wet weather front for New Years evening so I guess it will be all change again.

But for today this was as good as it got….

A Winters Day …Well not quite !

Cold, Foggy and Frosty…

Has winter really arrived in this little part of middle England?  Well we did have some frost to start the day but it was far from the deep crisp frost we usually have over the winter months.  It is cold,  cold by comparison with earlier December temperatures which have set a number of seasonal record highs.

We started the day at -3c but soon climber to 5c. The sky is clear and the air calm completely windless, early morning mist thickening to a swirling fog which remained all day.

At time the sun managed to slice its way through the fog, magically lifting the autumn colours that are still with us.  These bright spells never lasted long but kept teasing us throughout the day.. instantly coming and just as quickly vanishing..

I guess it is inevitable that we will receive a hard dose of traditional winter weather….when we do it will seem very harsh after what has been a strange year in the weather cycle of events.
