Many Never Came Home….

A Soldiers Room

So many never came home to their homes…….tomorrow is Remembrance Sunday when at the 11th Hour, on the 11th Day of the 11th Month, 1918, hostilities ceased.

Sadly we stumble on without learning the lessons of History

Heavy Horsepower ….on Four Legs

One Lucky Lady…

She sure was…..she had just been awarded “Supreme Champion” in the Shire Horse Championships, here in Derbyshire.  Very appropriately named Kilmore Lady Luck.  Both horse and owner obviously well pleased with their success.

Not that luck came into the equation.  Just lots of hard work and patience over time by all the Horses and Owners competing.  It is hard to conceive that this giants of the horse world can be both some powerful yet so placid.  Once the backbone of the agriculture, haulage and military arenas, thanks to some dedicated breeders and owners the Shire Horse Breed continues to have a place in our British countryside to-day.

Even nicer for them to make the big effort to bring the Horses young and old along for us to see and enjoy

A Winters Scene…..or two

I guess this could be a typical country scene across many parts of the UK today and over the coming week. This image is on one of the Victorian Greetings Cards in my collection.

In a recent (long put-off) sort out of files and the image archives, I also came across the image below….also a February shot.  Taken about 28 years ago on 35mm Fujichrome which I digitally scanned a few years later when we switched from film to digital imaging.  If I can dig out the traini I will try another scan on todays scanners which I am sure will produce better results….but meantime here we are
