Memories in the making….

As the year approaches the Winter Solstice and a New Year beckons so I thought I would look back at some of the years highlights…..memories in the making.

One memory we will have for a lifetime to come is of Carla, our Labrador and Director of Greetings. No longer with us but always there.

The Snow has all but Gone….

Tuesday was the last day of snow, even though it was still cold the bright sun started to melt what was by now a thin covering.  Grass was soon peaking through and apart from the odd sheltered bush, none remained upon the trees…giving a different view  through the woods…

Whilst it was still cold enough for our lake to remain frozen there was that ominous cracking across the surface, so even here the thaw had started…

The blue skies became hazier but the sun still tried to add some extra charm to what had been another rather nice day for December..

As the day progressed we began to get weather warnings that rain was on  the way. So it was no surprise to wake this morning to a very wet grey day.  Not that we are in any doubt that we will get more snow sometime this winter but  for the moment the forecasters are being rather vague.

Silver Birch shows its Winter Colours…

Silver-Birch-in-Snow

Snow lingers thanks to an extremely cold night, but no new showers.  The Silver Birch, now free of its last leaves, is now proudly able to show its true winter colours.

Not a bad winters day….. though hazy clouds are staring to encroach on the blue.

Dusk…on a Winters Day

After yesterdays snows the story today was of ice, treacherous roads and temperatures climbing to 2c. For the greater part of the day it continued to be overcast but late afternoon we enjoyed a clearing sky and a winter sunset.

The big downside of course is that the clear skies will see temperatures drop like a stone.. in fact -12c is predicted.
