Lavender Steps

I have published this image before on my Blog…but when the topic nominated for this weeks challenge was ‘Colourful’ I immediately thought of all the colours of nature we get in an English garden across the summer….every hue and tint different from its neighbour even on the same petal.

You can go and see the colourful world of others on this link

It is Changing …….

Change is on the way..

Although summer still has many more days instore for us there is no doubt that the days are starting later and finishing earlier…..  that sun is drifting south and giving us mornings and evenings of longer shadows.

The wet spring and heatwave summer has played many tricks on our plants. We have a Rose that normally only produces flowers the once, so this year it has been a bonus producing a flower on 3 occasions… a real bonus even if the later flowers have not been as vibrant or strong.  Berries are forming and Sweet Chestnuts are prolific, hopefully giving us a good crop of nuts in a few weeks time. As for the recent rains, well they didn’t amount to much but did rejuvenate flowers like Geraniums. The river is still low and calm, even though the weir runs white. The year is progressing and autumn will arrive in due course…in the meantime we have that late summer where the light is low, warm and kind.

Ideal evenings for a jog in the Park  (if of course you are that way inclined)

If not then walk the dog…or just put your feet up and relax   🙂

So Debby Passed us Bye…..

Not a bad weekend after all…Forecaster were full of a mixture of doom and excitement that rain was on the way.  So much bad weather that they named it Storm Debby.  Not sure that Debby reaped havoc anywhere but we did get some rain.

Saturday was just great, sunny, blue skies and a little cooler, but just as nice both in the garden and the woods…

Fungi are starting to make there autumnal appearance.  Bracket Fungi is perhaps to be expected on this ancient Oak, still standing upright and strong despite insects and fungi attacking its trunk…for a tree over 1000 years old that aint bad!

Sunday arrived and so did the rain, but to be frank it was more an irritant than a nuisance.  Still no doubt the plants would be grateful for the splash they were able to capture…

The heatwave may be over but the patio and drive are still holding some of that heat, the rain just evaporated as soon as it fell.

Being realistic we do need some meaningful rain….forecasters say we have a wet week ahead…we will see
