On the Moors….

Silver Birch on Stanton Moor, Derbyshire

After the vagaries and often harsh weather of the past week or so it was nice to waken to sunshine. It wasn’t an opportunity to be missed so we headed off to our favourite moor to stretch the legs and fill the lungs with real fresh air!

It remained sunny for most of our walk, at times bright blue at others a hazy cloud would dim the colours across the moors….one thing that hasn’t changed is a very icy wind from the east.  Not that we are complaining as we took the day for what it was…a bonus winters day.

There were one or two other folk out and about, all with big smiles on their faces, taking advantage of the very welcome break in the weather…what wasn’t there were the sheep, the pens empty and the moors bare, all taken in closer to home ready for the lambing season to begin.

Refreshed we head for home and wonder just what else the weather has in-store for us

DP Weekly Photo Challenge – SWEET

Old-Sweet-Shop.Southwell-13

The Old Sweet Shop, Southwell

Take your pick of ‘Old Fashioned Sweets’ in this very special little Sweet Shop.  I bet that over many generations children have spent a good deal of their pocket money here….and no doubt a good number of BIG KIDS that we call adults have also enjoyed a sweet treat.

My suggestion for this weeks DP Photo Challenge – Sweet

Cees Back and White Photo Challenge….Abandoned, Alone

Easdale Lumig

Maybe not abandoned…

This row of Highland Lochside Fishermen’s cottages has certainly seen better days.  They are remote and I have never seen anyone around them.  Holes in the makeshift roof may indicate that they have been abandoned yet recycled doors have been used to secure what ever lies within.

My suggestion for this weeks Cee’s B&W Photo Challenge…and before any blog followers says that I have used this image before, I admit it….but couldn’t resist using it for this weeks topic.

Late Afternoon

Big Wood, Allestree, Derbyshire

No not an autumn afternoon but after a dull morning with rain threatening the late afternoon brought a  complete change….and the low evening sun could fool you into thinking it is not spring but autumn again…..even smelt autumnal.
